American Heart Association Certification Classes

PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support
This classroom, video-based instructor-led course uses a series of simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation and team dynamics.  The goal of the Pediatric Advanced Life Support Course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved otcomes.

Course Content:
  • 1-and 2-Rescuer child CPR and AED use
  • 1- and 2-Rescuer infant CPR
  • Cardiac, respiratory and shock case discussions and simulations
  • Key changes reflecting the new science from the 2016 Guidelines
  • Management of respiratory emergencies
  • Resuscitation team concept
  • Rhythm disturbances and electrical therapy
  • Systematic approach to pediatric assessment
  • Vascular access

ACLS - Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support
This is an advanced, instructor-led classroom course that highlights the importance of team dynamics and communication, systems of care and immediate post cardiac-arrest care.  It also covers airway management and related pharmacology. Skills are taught in large group sessions and in small, group learning and testing stations where case-based scenarios are presented.
 
Course Content:
  • Airway Management
  • Basic life support skills, including effective chest compressions, use of a bag-mask device and AED
  • Effective communication as a member and leader of a resuscitation team
  • Key changes reflecting the new science from the 2016 Guidelines
  • Management of acute coronary syndromes (ACS) and stroke
  • Recognition and early management of per-arrest conditions such as symptomatic bradycardia
  • Recognition and early management of respiratory and cardiac arrest
  • Related pharmacology

Basic First Aid for the Lay Rescuer
This course is useful for home and work.  Topics covered include bloodborne pathogens, assessment, bleeding control, fracture management, burns and more.

BLS for Healthcare Providers
The BLS for Healthcare Providers is a classroom course designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, learn to provide CPR, use an AED and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner.
 
Course Content:
  • 1-Rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant
  • 2-Rescuer CPR and AED for adult, child and infant
  • Bag-mask techniques for adult, child and infant
  • CPR with advanced airway - an introduction to the compression/ventilation rate and ratio for a patient who has an advanced airway in place
  • Critical concepts of high-quality CPR
  • Key changes reflecting the new science from the 2016 Guidelines
  • Relief of choking for adult, child and infant
  • Rescue breathing for adult, child and infant
  • The American Heart Association Chain of Survival
